what’s your limit?

“You don’t have to push

past your limit-

you just have to reach it more often.”

– Ironman Andy Potts  (quote in Outside magazine)

I read this quote the other day.  It’s reassuring; good I don’t have to go beyond my limits.  I don’t have to go beyond what I can handle.  But then I read it again and realized that it makes me question what I do.  Why don’t I reach my limits more often?  Why is this so difficult to achieve?

There is something that each and every one of us hopes to accomplish.  During this week as the old year is fading and the new year is before us like a blank slate waiting to be filled, we tend to think more of goals and accomplishments.

It’s exciting to think of what can be achieved in 2013!

But, to reach your goals maybe you have to reach your limits more often.  Forget about being comfortable.  Push yourself…hard.  Stop worrying about what others think and just go for it!

It will be a lot of work, accomplishing that goal you have in mind.  But, you know it will be worth it.

I plan to strive for that limit.  Find out exactly where it is and reach out and touch it!

I have a few goals in mind for 2013.  I am excited to reach them.  I know it will not be easy and often I will want to give up and crawl back to the place where everything is safe and familiar and easy.  But the rewards are too great.  The way I see 2013 playing out in my mind is too exciting to not try.

Are there goals that you hope to achieve in the new year that will require pushing yourself to your limits?  Will you go for it?

  1. but i’m tirrreeedd.. oh, wait, that’s not the right attitude is it. okay, i’ve got a few days to get it together here. you’re absolutely right. i’m going to do something, as soon as i figure out what that is. maybe after my nap? honestly, i think you’re too hard on yourself. from what i’ve read of you, you push yourself an awful lot. 😉

  2. A great reminder. All those glorified successes other people are broadcasting – you gotta think. You don’t have to reach the unreachable when it is not you and it’s far beyond your capability, means and, more importantly, your desire.
