my running playlist

Today I began my triathlon training for the year.  By that I mean I got my butt in the pool and swam.  I haven’t swam since August because, well, I don’t like to swim!  Lay on a beach, yes.  Float on a raft in the middle of the pool, yes.  Sit in a hot tub, of course.  Actually swim, no!  Unfortunately 1/3 of a triathlon is swimming so I have to start the training.

So I got my suit on, stuck my head under the shower, and walked out to the pool.  Of course, since it’s January, every lane was filled with three people.  I stood, freezing now, while the lifeguard filled me in on the abilities of the swimmers in each lane and which lane would be best for me to join.  Finally I slipped into the water, adjusted my goggles, and dove under.  “Wow, this feels great!”, I thought.  Then I surfaced and began to swim the freestyle (which looks nothing like the real freestyle) and it became painfully clear to me just how long it has been!  All I could think was that I am glad it is only January!

Part of my dislike of swimming is overcoming the boredom of back and forth laps in a pool.  When I run (my favorite!) I have my playlist to keep me company if I am running alone.  I love my running playlist.  It’s named  “Running Fast”!

In the spirit of the new year and new exercise and race goals, I will share my list with you.  I would love to hear songs that you use too while working out because I am always looking for new song to add to my list!

Disclaimer:  this playlist is based on songs that will make me run faster and workout harder.  The faster the beat the better.  I have a wide variety of styles of music.  There is definitely more Hip Hop on the list than I listen to in “real” life.  I am not a Hipster and my goal is not to find songs that no one else has ever heard.  Again my goal is to find fast songs!  I also always choose the “clean” version of the song.

That being said, in no particular order, here is my list:

Running Fast:

Lets Get It Started – Black Eyed Peas     (ha, had to include since every race now begins with this!)

Uprising  – Muse

   Right Round – Flo Rida

Such Great Heights – The Postal Service

Enter Sandman – Metallica

Talk Dirty to Me – Poison

Face Down – The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Good Feeling – Flo Rida

Modern Love – David Bowie    (oh yeah, by the way, I grew up in the 80’s…)

Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey    (no, not  the Glee version)

Mr. Brightside – The Killers

Welcome to the Jungle – Guns N’ Roses

Down – Jay Sean

In the End – Linkin Park

Born to Run – Bruce Springsteen   (how could I not include this or this one…)

Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

Float On – Modest Mouse   (my favorite pick me up song!)

Once In a Lifetime – Keith Urban   (yes, even Country makes an appearance)

Ocean Avenue – Yellowcard

The Impression That I Get – Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Wild Ones – Flo Rida    (what can I say?  Flo Rida knows how to drop the beat!)

Neutron Star Collision – Muse

Sandstorm – Dardue    (trust me you’ve heard this one at games)

Walk This Way – Run- DMC

‘Till I Collapse – Eminem

Bryn – Vampire Weekend

Dirty Little Secret – The All-American Rejects

Kings and Queens – 30 Seconds To Mars

Pump It – Black Eyed Peas   (I know, I know more Peas but the song is fast!)

Mac Daddy – tobymac   (cuz I do want a Mac!)

Stronger – Kanye West

So, what are your favorite songs to work out to?  I would love to have some new songs to listen to!

  1. Yes, swimming can be boring 😀 compared to running or being only BY the water. 😀 LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your playlist. You have a great taste for music. And the variety! So Cool! 😀 I specifically love Postal Service, Vampire Weekend, The Killers, Modest Mouse and Kanye West. But of course, I, too, listen to pretty much anything such as Eminem, All American Rejects, Yellowcard, Muse and Linkin’ Park.
This post just made me 😀

    1. Thanks! I did my long run for the week today. Usually I run with a friend but she couldn’t today so I used my ipod. With the music I kicked butt on the run if I do say so myself 🙂
